Paytm wallet recharge functionality via Citi App/Portal is being discontinued
In a mailer communication, Citibank has informed its cardmembers about the discontinuation of the Paytm Wallet recharge/load option, w.e.f from 1st October 2021. Paytm wallet has emerged as a secure and RBI-approved digital/mobile wallet that can be used for multiple purposes. It is like digital cash that can be used for consumer payment, including credit card bills payment. You can add money to the Paytm wallet through UPI, internet banking, or credit/debit cards.
Lately, Paytm has started charging a 2.3% fee on adding funds to its wallet through a credit card. With such a limitation, Citibank credit card users could bypass this 2.3% charge and add funds to their Paytm wallets for free through Citibank mobile app or web portal. Many cardmembers, including us, used this loophole until now and kept a couple of thousand rupees in rotation by simply adding funds into Paytm wallet each month via the Citi app/portal and pay off a credit card bill. Unfortunately, a chunk of 'ache din' will cease to exist post September 30, 2021.
