The Revamped American Express Gold Charge Card | Fresh Features Added | #GoldRefresh

On 13th July 2021, American Express had shot a mailer communication to its Gold Charge Cardholders notifying them of additional benefits on their card that American Express would reveal on 15th July 2021. A snippet of the mailer can be accessed in our Twitter handle by clicking here.

Although American Express wanted to keep its Gold Cardholders with bated breath until 15th July, their customer care executives were happy enough to break the secret pot, if enquired. Most card enthusiasts knew beforehand what added benefits were coming on their way.

Let's get into the details of the revamped American Express Gold Charge Card.

Rewards Points on Utility Bills and Fuel 

- With effect from 1 July 2021, Cardmembers will earn :

• 1 Membership Rewards Points on every Rs. 50 on Utility (electricity, water, and gas bills) 

• Capped at 10,000 Membership Rewards points in a calendar month.

• 1 Membership Rewards point on every Rs. 50 on Fuel payments, including petrol, diesel, and CNG.

• Capped at 5,000 Membership Rewards points in a calendar month.

5X on Reward Multiplier

- Accelerated Rewards upgraded to 5X Category from 2X category.

• 5X Bonus Membership Rewards Points via Rewards Multiplier.

• Accelerated rewards shall be credited within a period of 120 business days from the date of valid transaction.

Monthly Fee Option

• You can now opt to pay Rs. 375 + taxes every month towards the card's fee instead of an annual fee of Rs. 4,500 + taxes.

• Once enrolled for the monthly fee option, you cannot switch the fee payment cycle back to the annual fee payment cycle in the same membership year. 

• If you have crossed the cards’ annual renewal date, you will have the option to switch to the monthly payment cycle in the next membership year.

Cashback offer on Lakme Salons

• Gold Cardholders can get a cashback of up to Rs. 1,500 on Lakme Salons.

• The offer shall be active from 15 July 2021 to 15 October 2021. 

• Cardholders need to enroll the card to avail of the Lakme Salon cashback offer.

• It is upon the cardmember's discretion to use the full amount of cashback one time or divide the same between the full offer period. 

• Cashback offer only valid for primary Cardmember

Bottomline

It's good to see American Express has shifted some of its focus towards the Amex Gold Card, which many felt was left ignored for a significant period of time. Many Gold Cardholders had limited themselves to use it 6 times for Rs. 1000 each to reap the monthly bonus membership rewards, and that's it. We fall in the same category. This makeover seems promising enough to encourage Gold Cardholders to use it elsewhere for a larger share of debit transactions.
