AMEX Platinum Travels Card | SpiceJet Voucher Are Being Discontinued

An email from American Express today notified the discontinuation of SpiceJet Vouchers, w.e.f 1st August 2020. Henceforth, one may choose to redeem his/her Membership Rewards Points for American Express Travel vouchers for other airlines including SpiceJet through the American Express Travel's Portal but at the same Point's value.

With that being said, it's clear that American Express has just devalued the worth of their points. 

Here's how:

1.9 Lacs Milestone

• On spending Rs 1,90,000 on your AMEX Platinum Travels Credit Card, you get 7,500 Points.

• These 7,500 Points were previously redeemable for INR 6,000 worth of SpiceJet Travel Vouchers or INR 5,000 worth of Travel Vouchers for other airlines.

• Now w.e.f 1st August 2020, you can only redeem your points for INR 5,000 worth of Travel vouchers with other airlines including SpiceJet. 

• Your Point's potential to have reaped an extra INR 1,000 value of Travel Voucher with SpiceJet gets seized now.

• Points devalued from 0.8 Paise per Point to 0.67 Paise Per Point.

4 Lacs Milestone

• On spending Rs 4,00,000 on your AMEX Platinum Travels Credit Card, you get 10,000 Points.

• These 10,000 Points were previously redeemable for INR 10,000 worth of SpiceJet Travel Vouchers or 8,000 worth of Travel Vouchers for other airlines.

• Now you can only redeem your points for INR 8,000 worth of Travel vouchers with other airlines. Here, your Points get a cut of INR 2,000.

• Points devalued from Re 1 per Point to 0.8 Paise Per Point.

However, we have had a word with the American Express agents about it. They say that their marketing team is working to bring in another merchant who will provide a similar value to SpiceJet's points.
