When contactless credit & debit cards were introduced, it was fascinating to many of us. Contactless cards made the payment process much easier and more efficient. Just tap, and you are good to go. A way better procedure from dipping or swiping our cards into PoS machines every time we needed to transact on our cards.
However, technology an ever-evolving process, and anything new is bound to get old. As contactless technology seems to lay its hand on almost everything possible, SBI Cards, one of the country's leading credit card issuers, has launched 'SBI Card Pay,' a feature that allows contactless payment using mobile phones at the point of sale (PoS) terminals. Using SBI Card Pay, you can make contactless payments at Near Field Communication (NFC) enabled point of sale terminals with just one tap on your smartphone, without using the physical credit card or entering any PIN. Basically, it is a payment feature based on Host Card Emulation (HCE) technology for faster, convenient, and more secure card payments using mobile phones.
Once you register your card on the latest SBI Card app, you can complete payments by merely unlocking your phone screen and bringing the mobile device near the PoS terminal. Currently, the facility has been launched on the VISA platform and will function on any Android smartphone with Android OS KitKat version 4.4 and above.
Since you aren't required to hand over your plastic to the merchant and that the card information is transmitted wirelessly by NFC, your physical card information is never exposed to the prying eyes, making the transaction completely secure.
