Standard Chartered Manhattan Credit Card Review

Most of the time, when a bank launches a credit card, they try to attract the customers with fancy offers and benefits. However, some banks come up with a fancy name instead of fancy offers and benefits, and that is precisely the case with StanChart's Manhattan Credit Card. The name sounds good, isn't it? I personally find it very attractive but alas that the card disappoints in terms of the benefits it provides. Here's why:


The Standard Chartered Manhattan Credit Card offers:

◾ Get BookMyShow vouchers worth INR 2,000 as a welcome gift
- Applicable on your first transaction in the first 90 days

◾ 5% cashback on supermarkets and departmental store
- Cashback is applicable on minimum transaction of 1000 or more
- Maximum cashback of Rs 150 per transaction
- Maximum aggregated cashback of Rs 500 per month

◾ 3x rewards when you use your credit card for all other expenses
- 1 reward point = Rs 0.30

◾ EMI facility, Dial a loan, Balance Transfer and BT on EMI
- Available to a selected set of customers. call Standard Chartered customer support for availing the abovementioned offers as they are subjected to offer availability on the particular card account

Joining Fee: Rs 999 + Applicable Taxes
Renewal Fee: Rs 999 + Applicable Taxes
(Waived on spending Rs 1,20,000 in the Year)

Basically, the Standard Chartered Manhattan Credit Card is for those who prefer shopping at supermarkets and departmental stores. When spending at supermarkets and departmental stores; this card has the potential to fetch you Rs 500 as cashback per month; which aggregates to a yearly savings of Rs 6000. But sadly, to avail full cashback, you need to do multiple transactions as the maximum cashback per transaction is capped at Rs 500.
Nowadays, many credit cards provide good cashback without any twisted criteria. Hence, Standard Chartered could have kept it simple.
